Abraham of the Bible is accepted as the founding father of Christianity, Islam and Judaism. All three belief systems claim him proudly as their grandaddy and hold him up as the ideal example of devotion. The man was a schizophrenic who heard voices telling him to kill his own son as an offering - which he almost did except he had another spell stopping him. This is seen as examplary behaviour by the three most powerful religions by the world.
They all believe their god needs human blood - otherwise he'll destroy the world. To stop this from happening, an animal must be killed and burnt on an altar. Or your own son. When Jesus supposedly walked the Earth - he too had to be killed so "God" would not destroy the world. (This part is a lot more complicated though - "God" killed himself to appease himself - but then he got better and lived on...)
The message is plain and is the same as any primitive voodoo ritual: "God" needs the blood of a human else he'll destroy the world. A sacrifice will put this off for another year.
